The federal government and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia in 2011
is less need to raise subsidies for coal mining in Germany, expiring
in 2011 than originally anticipated.
In the current year would probably be around 500 million euros in aid
not used, said the President of the General Association of coal, Bernd
Tönjes, on Monday in Essen. The reason for this is due to increased
world market prices for coal. The subsidized coal mining in Germany,
which is bundled under the umbrella of the RAG Group is to expire
2018th The aid must be under an agreement between the EU Commission
and the Federal Government to go back down gradually.
GREEN ENERGY INSTEAD OF BLACK GOLD
The RAG is concerned, according to Tönnies now with how they may
participate in the planned energy systems in Germany. Their stockpiles
would provide about a "whole range" of possible applications for
renewable energy - from the erection of wind turbines to pump storage
power plants in abandoned coal mines. This can help to save
electricity from alternative energy sources. Without opportunities for
energy storage are the energy goals of the federal government not to

Had kicked off the debate, Hans Joachim Schellnhuber. The chief of the prestigious, internationally renowned Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) said on Tuesday he thought the electricity for non-sustainable. The Curse of Coal
Colombia is a major supplier of German electricity producers. To cheap to get to the raw material, exploiting the responsible man and nature without pity - with devastating consequences.
The German energy producers want to continue to do without coal. The existing power stations will be added in the coming years as late as 24 new ones. And even though coal power is a climate killer number one. But the controversial energy resource demands is another high price, which is found on any electric bill.

For companies such as Vattenfall, Eon, EnBW and Evonik burn more coal from Colombia, where it gradually degrades under catastrophic conditions. In recent years, moved the South American country to become a major supplier in Germany. Since the summer it is even in second place behind Russia, as evidenced by figures from the Federal Statistical Office.

Germany oversleeps coal agreement with the EU
Germany has clearly failed to get approval, the coal subsidies by the EU. This could be the end of mining.
The exit from the coal-promotion is apparently without sufficient consultation with the EU Commission agreed. Then point to internal documents of the Essenes RAG Foundation, which exist WORLD ONLINE. Thus, it was apparently missed since 2007 of the federal government and the two coal-states of North Rhine-Westphalia and Saarland, the German coal vote finance law with the EU and to press for a crucial permit for further state subsidy payments through the year 2010.
As shown in the annual reports of the Foundation for the years 2008 and 2009 is missing, until now the ultimate approval of the EU Commission for the discharge plan, which foresees the end for the German mines in eight years. "A decision on the restructuring plan by the year 2018 is not so far been taken. The other timing is dependent on the clarification of issues and the definition of a decision based on the level of the EU, "it says in the internal documents of the Foundation.
End of state subsidies
End of July, the EU Commission decided surprising to want to approve more state subsidies for loss-making mines in Europe since 2014. It was at first even a transitional period until 2022 was under discussion. But the Brussels commissioners decided then for a very short transition period. The main reason: The Commission wants to eliminate coal subsidies, because their share of the energy supply is already low.
In addition, EU countries would in any case to rely more on renewable energy. Coal is therefore the way out, said EU Competition Commissioner Joaquín Almunia. Even if the Federal Government now seeks to overturn the decision of the Commission, which Erfolgsausschichten are rather low.

The Economic Welfare of Bituminous Coal Miners
It is a pitty that most studies on labor in the coal industry do focus on the struggle to organize unions. This work is however different and offers a more diverse and quantitative examination of the coal mining labor market. It regards the social and economic lives of the bituminous coal miners in the early twentieth century. Here Fishback's analytic methodology encompasses competition among employers for labor, the legal environment, institutional development in response to transactions costs as well as the impact of labor unions on the coal industry. Utilizing economic theories and proper statistics, Fishback reveals the theory hidden in the descriptions of events, and then tests their internal consistency as well as the hypotheses they generate. The book is designed for the social scientist, but also management practicioners in the coal industry can gain from this some insights that help them to understand the other stakeholders in the coal mining industry.

Global coal prices zoom
... The sharp rise in the global spot price of coal highlights the folly of India planning to use imported coal for part of its future power generation. Spot coal prices have shot up to $140 per tonne in Australia and $123 per tonne in South Africa. Therefore, long-term contracts between Japanese utilities and Australian producers will probably be signed at $110 per tonne next year against just $55.6 last year....
